Different process routes and plant concepts can be applied for producing high-strength line-pipe steel grades. The various metallurgical capabilities of these routes are compared in this article. Profound metallurgical know-how and long-time experience are essential to achieve a reliable, reproducible and cost-optimized process. Steel plant operators will have to evaluate the costs of these processes against the benefits based on the individual plant situation.
