Vallourec has contracted Danieli to supply a new 325-mm round section on the existing Danieli round bloom caster at St. Saulve. The 4-strand, 12-m radius CCM installed by Danieli in 2007 is equipped with advanced technology like Mould EMS, multi-bending radii with multiple W/S module, provision for Final EMS, and Level 1 and Level 2 Automation. The original casting section range was from 180 to 310 mm dia., and the steel grades being produced included API grades, special steels, and high-chromium alloys.

ArcelorMittal Hamburg has chosen the low-emission, low-consumption and high quality performances guaranteed by the combination of Danieli Centro Combustion furnace and Danieli Automation optimization model. The furnace, designed for safe and reliable operation, will have an innovative thermal profile that achieves optimum heating efficiency thanks to improved convective heat exchange in the unfired zone and reduced environmental impact thanks to DCC proprietary flameless burners.
The new 600 000-tpy mill has reached full contractual speed and exceeded daily capacity. The new AEMZ plant is rolling wirerod at 110 m/s, the fastest in Russia, and producing a wide range of steel grades, such as tyre cord, low-, medium- and high-carbon, micro-alloyed and reinforcement grades for construction purposes, spring steel, bearing steel, welding wire and CHQ grades.

The new Atakaş cold-rolling complex located in Iskenderun, Turkey, which consists of a continuous pickling line, two single-stand 6-high reversing mills, a vertical hot dip galvanizing line and a colour coating line, is ramping up production with tangible results in quality and reliability. Just 40 days after the processing of the first coil through the continuous pickling line, Danieli and Atakaş started-up cold rolling mill #1; one day later, the same coil was processed at the hot dip galvanizing line.
SSAB in Oxelösund, TFK Transport Research Institute and Kalmar, a part of Cargotec, are to initiate a unique multimillion-SEK project to develop and test carbon-dioxide-free internal transport powered by hydrogen and fuel cells. “This is a very good project for SSAB in Oxelösund, where we can now really study the possibilities to reduce our fossil dependence. In addition to completely changing the fuel, we also get a better machine,” says Jacob Sandberg, site manager at SSAB in Oxelösund. SSAB has significant internal transport activities which consist of forklift trucks and other vehicles, which currently predominantly run on fossil fuels. A total of some 50 different vehicles are in use in internal transport in Oxelösund.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has published its 2016 Steel Statistical Yearbook. It presents a cross-section of steel industry statistics. It contains comprehensive statistics from 2006 to 2015 on crude steel production by country and process, steel production by product, steel trade by product, apparent steel use and apparent steel use per capita by country, as well as production and trade of pig iron and directly reduced iron. It also includes data on production and trade of iron ore and trade of scrap. The statistics were collected from members of worldsteel and various international organisations. A PDF copy of the yearbook and all previous editions can be downloaded for free from worldsteel.org.
